W.Bro. Tony Harvey is an active Scout as well as Freemason.

Joining the Scout movement on his eighth birthday, he went on to become a Queen’s Scout. As an adult he has held appointments at local and national levels. Since the late eighties he has been involved with the work of The Scout Association’s UK headquarters where he has been a member of a number of national boards, committees and teams, especially in the areas of recruitment, adult training and activities, and has been a regular contributor to Scouting Magazine. Currently he is involved in defining and developing the Association’s future approach to volunteer leadership and management. He is also a director and trustee of the charity that bought back into Scouting the Rolls-Royce car, “Jam Roll”, that the Scouts of the World bought for Robert Baden-Powell to celebrate Scouting’s coming of age in 1929. Bro. Harvey was awarded The Scout Association’s “Silver Acorn” for specially distinguished services in the St. George’s Day Awards of 2006.

Masonically, Bro. Harvey was initiated into Pioneer Lodge No. 9065, the Province of Derbyshire’s Scout Lodge, in Scout uniform, at the age of thirty-one. He is also a Founder and Past Master of Walesby Forest Lodge No. 9674, Nottinghamshire’s Scout Lodge; a member of the Essex Scout Lodge, Venturer Lodge No. 7897, and Junior Warden of Authors’ Lodge No. 3456 in London. Within his home province of Derbyshire Bro. Harvey is the Provincial Grand Mentor and the Mark Provincial Grand Secretary. In 2009 he became the Founding Master of The Scout Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1907, a Lodge which meets in different provinces to bring together local Scouting and local Mark Masonry.

As the Kindred Lodges Association’s (KLA’s) liaison with the UK Scout Association and United Grand Lodge, Bro. Harvey meets at intervals with senior staff and volunteers at The Scout Association, to discuss matters relating to Scouting and Freemasonry. In 2008 he was invited to meet with the Grand Secretary, as a result of which UGLE has endorsed Bro. Harvey’s work. Senior members of both organisations have since met to discuss matters of mutual interest and to build relationships that, Bro. Harvey believes, will benefit both organisations in the future.

When he is not engaged in Scouting or Masonic activities, Bro. Harvey works as a Leadership consultant, trainer and coach. As well as holding degrees in psychology, education and management he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, of the Chartered Management Institute and of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, manufactures and commerce
